While I have traveled the world a bit, the 24 hours each direction to New Delhi and back  was longer than I spent in the country and a record travel time for me.  I only visited New Delhi, and the stark contrast of Haves vs. Have Nots was amazing.  I was asked what I saw when I was there.  Short answer- LOTS of traffic!  Here’s some shots, most of which were taken from the back seat of an E Class Mercedes that the JW Marriott provided.  Would not have made it any other way!  My other option is the Yellow Taxi, 3 wheels strong, which runs on propane.

My sightseeing trip occurred on the way to the airport, and  lasted about 2 hours.  Saw a number of World Heritage sites. The Qutub Minar was bult in AD1211-36 (at least the first part) and is 238 feet high (“it would be a pleasant surprise to know that its height is 5 ft less than that of the Taj Mahal.” says the plaque).  Clearly the Taj will not be surpassed.  Humayun’s Tomb is the earliest example of Persian architecture in India, and was build between 1565 and 1572AD.

My visa is for 5 years, and if things keep going as they are, I would not at all be surprised to be back there...
